Job Summary

The Emergency Department (ED) Physician will provide high-quality, on-site emergency medical care to veterans at the Charlie Norwood VA Health Care System. The physician will manage a range of emergency conditions in accordance with the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Perform direct patient care in the ED, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and disposition of patients.
2. Conduct initial evaluation and emergent treatment of minor to life-threatening conditions.
3. Perform medical procedures such as intubation, central venous line placement, wound repair, and emergency airway management.
4. Stabilize and coordinate the transfer of patients requiring a higher level of care.
5. Supervise and collaborate with Advanced Practice Providers (NPs/PAs).
6. Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions for patients.
7. Maintain complete and accurate medical documentation using the VAs electronic health record system.
8. Participate in quality improvement programs and peer reviews.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Board Certification in Emergency Medicine.
2. Unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
4. Experience working in an emergency department setting.
5. Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications

1. 24/7 emergency department coverage required.
2. Day shifts (7 AM - 5 PM, 11 AM - 9 PM), evening shifts (3 PM - 1 AM), and night shifts (10 PM - 8 AM).
3. Physicians must be on-site during scheduled shifts and provide timely patient care.
