Educational and Experience Requirement:Associates degree, 60 college hours, with no experience required. Library experience would be helpful. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Nature & Purpose of Position:To provide responsible technical, supervisory, and public services skills necessary in the operation of a specific work unit in the University Library. Responsible for performing specialized duties requiring advanced operational skills and technical knowledge of library practices and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities: Serves as ILLs front-line customer service contact in-person and by phone/email, includes troubleshooting patron issues (password resets, returns, pick-ups, etc.). Participates in ILL Borrowing research, includes: verifies requested citations; processes borrowing requests using the OCLC Resource Sharing system, ILLiad, Odyssey, and other appropriate means; locates free lenders; updates and verifies lender addresses in ILLiad; refer unresolved borrowing requests to Library Associate. Participates in ILL Borrowing processing, includes: opens & sorts incoming mail; verifies accuracy of received items and communicate with lending libraries regarding errors; prepares & packages items for patrons & return to libraries; tracks wayward mail. Participates in Document Delivery/Distance Education services, includes: uses Alma library services platform to locate NGL materials; processes loans via Faculty Direct, mail, campus box; scans articles and chapters.
Oversees use of and maintains records for the Texas County Records microfilm project and sends statistics to State Library in Austin monthly. Performs basic data entry functions, includes: updates and verifies user accounts in ILLiad; updates custom holdings; creates statistics for reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis; performs project-specific data entry (clean-up for bound periodicals, user accounts, lost items, etc.). Collects and prepares data for statistical purposes. Highlights trends and changes that may affect workflow or department or industry changes. Functional supervision of student assistants, includes: participates in hiring and training, assigns work related to ILL Borrowing and Document Delivery/Distance Education services.
Normally will be involved in routine contacts with faculty, staff, students, and other patrons and some important contacts with other universities up to or more than 50% of the time. Therefore, ability to deal effectively in contacts with people is necessary. Working conditions are normally in a semi-private or general working area of the library with little or no disagreeable conditions. Ability to type, operate general office machines and familiarity with Windows type computer applications is needed. Must be able to lift and carry boxes; load and push book trucks; and shelve books.
Work schedule: Mon-Fri, 9am 6pm (with flexibility for negotiation of work schedule). Rotating weekend shifts and occasional evening/night shift coverage when necessary. Full Time Part Time:Full Time
