Summary

As the leader of the facility, the Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) is expected to assure that the facility always operates in compliance with all state and federal regulations while providing person-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the facility and keep the organization on track for its long term goals and mission.

  • Implements policies, rules and procedures for the facility as established by the Governing Body.

  • Monitors facility processes, practices, physical plant condition and resource availability to assure that the facility is in a state of continuous compliance.

  • Establish and maintain facility committees, to implement policies, assure compliance with regulations, provide a safe and high quality of care for residents.

  • Develop and implement the facility Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan focusing on required reporting metrics, high risk and/or high-volume problems, prone processes.

  • Complete the facility assessment, review annually, revise when dictated based on changes in resident composition/needs, and submit to the governing body annually and whenever revised.

  • Recruit and retain nursing home staff members to assure that adequate staff is available to provide resident care, to maintain the facility in good repair, and to perform the administrative functions necessary to support the facility.

  • Assure that facility staff members receive training necessary to perform their duties in a safe, effective and compliant manner.

  • Provides input to the operating budget based on the facility assessment, and maintains compliance with the established budget.

  • Recommend and prioritize capital improvements, including major equipment and renovations.

  • Maintains the facility census at or above budget targets by promoting the facility with referral sources and prospective residents/families and participating in ACOs and preferred provider networks.

  • Communicates with residents and families on a regular basis to assure that needs and expectations are being met or exceeded.

  • Address concerns and/or grievances raised by residents or family members in a timely manner. Assess issues with the potential for recurrence or impact on other residents and present to the QAPI committee.

  • Work with clinical staff to create a plan of care for each resident and to oversee residents' progress and condition.

  • Oversee the billing of residents for services rendered and the collection of private billings.

  • Assist with decisions on when to send residents to other health care facilities, such as hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

  • Draft regular reports to the facility’s governing body including the quality metrics of survey activities and budget compliance.

  • Represent the facility in dealings with outside agencies, including governmental agencies and third-party payers.

  • Review and develop a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during surveys.

  • Accountable for all requirements, assignments and duties required by all regulatory agencies and management.

  • Responsible for completing in a timely manner PBJ Reporting, NHSN Reporting and all other CMS required reporting(s) utilizing the corporate approved software.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related fields preferred

Work Experience:

  • Two years Nursing Home Administrator experience preferred

  • Computer literacy skills including Word and basic mouse and keyboard operations. Electronic clinical documentation experience preferred.

  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English language

  • Must possess a high degree of initiative and motivation

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • Must hold a current State of Michigan NHA License in good standing with LARA

Other Qualifications:

  • Have strong leadership, interpersonal and management skills as well as be able to work as a team with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Must attend and participate in professional activities and programs.

  • Stay current on required training safety and new industry trends and areas applicable to performing responsibilities.

  • Have the ability to be flexible and perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in the office as well as throughout the facility.

  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.

  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.

  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset employees, residents, family members, etc.

  • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing staff, and other foundation supervisors.

  • Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.

  • May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses including COVID-19.

  • May be exposed to chemicals for cleaning and sanitation purposes.

  • There may be instances of standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping/gripping, finger dexterity, writing/data entry, lifting/carrying (up to 25 pounds).

  • There may be instances of climbing stairs, pushing or pulling, reaching above shoulders.
